Your cat may not be receiving the best medical treatment available. Evidence-based veterinary medicine is still not common practice. Too often, veterinarians act based on poor-quality studies, on the advice of a pharmaceutical representative or colleague, or out of habit. Feline medicine and behavior are heavily understudied—cats are consistently deprioritized in research compared to humans and dogs—and the studies that do exist are often industry-funded and of questionable quality. Furthermore, financial conflicts of interest appear prominent in the field. Veterinarians lack the time to read all scientific publications, do not always have access to them, and are not trained to critically evaluate their quality and reliability. Studies with serious methodological flaws are all too common, and decisions affecting your cat's health and wellbeing may be based on them.

We are a team of volunteer scientists dedicated to objective, rigorous, and animal-friendly research on feline behavior and disease. We conduct only observational studies or use leftover tissues from veterinary clinics—no laboratory animals, no stress, no pain, no exceptions. We also write and publish systematic reviews (researching the research) that critically evaluate the full body of scientific knowledge on specific topics in feline medicine. Because we publish open-access, our findings are freely available to anyone worldwide. However, open-access publishing comes at a cost. Article processing charges range from $1,300 to $3,800 per article, and as a US-based nonprofit, we often do not qualify for waivers or discounts.

We are the world's only nonprofit organisation that conducts original feline research entirely free from industry ties and rely entirely on public support. Please donate to help us remain independent and keep our research freely accessible to everyone.
